Carpet Cleaning at Home – Is It That Difficult

To answer the question directly – yes and no. Wait, that’s a bit confusing, isn’t it? Let me explain.

Regular carpet cleaning is easy – you need a decent vacuum cleaner and probably fifteen minutes every week. The weekly maintenance will allow you to keep your carpets in a relatively decent shape, remove dust, and prevent the accumulation of dirt amid the fibres. Alternatively, you can use a vacuum robot (Roomba is arguably the best-known brand) that will achieve similar results and let you off the hook as far as vacuuming.

The problems appear when you have to deal with a specific issue like persistent stains, mould, or bad smells, or the regular vacuum cleaning no longer counters the wear and tear. In this case, you are very short of options – you either have to book a professional carpet cleaner or buy a new carpet.

Some people believe there is a third option – trying to salvage your carpet from a quickly deteriorating condition by putting in more effort or trying some wacky idea they’ve found on the Internet. Best case scenario – they will only waste a bit of their time before hiring a professional. Worst case scenario – the wacky idea proves to be disastrous, and they have to buy a new carpet.
